Tipping

I have strong feelings on this issue As I'm sure a lot oe people do..

I don't believe that tips should be included in the check. I feel this way because I believe that they should have to earn it. I believe that a waiter/waitress should actually have to work for it. I have been to places where the tip was included & the waiter did nothing to help serve us, we had to get up & get our own beverages refilled and ask other staff to get things for us. I don't think that people should get a 15% tip, for doing little to no work. I have also been to places that included the tip & the waiter/waitress doesn't even bring out the food, they just took the order & someone else delivered the food.

But I also think that people should at least tip 10% when they are tipping, 15% would be better, but at least do 10%. I mean some customers can be really rude & the waiter/waitress has to put up with it, then to get a $2 tip off of a $40 meal ticket, that's ridiculous. When I was 18, I was a waitress, so I know that people aren't always good at tipping a fair amount. I would wait on people, they would have a ticket of $40 & I would make a $2 tip, that was only 5% of their total order. Sometimes I would make $.25, on a $10 ticket, not at all fair. If you have a waiter/waitress that is constantly refilling your drinks, making sure that you have everything you need, bringing your food out in a timely manner, than leave a good tip.

The reason I bring this up is because last Sunday we went to breakfast with my friend. We all sat at the same table together. The waitress was very kind & did a great job. Well, my friend left a $5 tip on the table just before we left. The waitress actually watched her leave it. I included mine in the meal ticket at the register. So we leave, while I was putting Braeden in the truck, the waitress came out to my truck, yes she came out to me, and asked if I had left a tip. I looked at her & told her that the $5 was left on the table & that she was there when it was put there. She acknowledged that she did in fact see the tip placed there. She said that the tip wasn't there. I told her that she was left a tip, and I didn't know what had happened to it. We had only been out of the restaurant for less than 5 min. But in all places we have been, I have never had someone came out to me & ask me for a tip. I asked all the kids to make sure they didn't take it, and none of them had seen it, so I'm not sure what happened to it.

  1. That's so weird she came out and asked you! Who does that?!
I totally agree with you about tipping. My mom was a waitress when she was in college and my parents have always taught us it's really important to tip well. I do agree that the tip should reflect the service. My husband always gets mad at me for "overtipping" but I think I'm fair! ;)

  2. That is really weird, Lynne. I also believe in tipping based on the service received. If you do a good job, I will leave you a good tip. If you suck, then you'll get a pretty crappy tip. I'm an overtipper too! What I don't get is places where you order at the counter, but they have a tip line on the credit card receipt. WTH is that?
