ER Visit

Yesterday afternoon I went to my neighbor's house to see if she could watch William & Chandler in the afternoon's for me. The boy's bus dropped them off at her house. We were discussing things when the boys asked to go outside and swing on the swing set. I said sure, just don't go on the trampoline (probably would have been better off).

So about 5-10 min later Chandler comes to the door, saying "help, help" I asked him what while I was getting up, he said "Help, Mom the tree fell", it was then that I heard William screaming, so I figured he was hurt the worst. I had noticed a gash in Chan's head, and told him to stay put so that I could check on William as well.

I get to William, a branch at least 6 ft in length, and 6 in in diameter, had broken from the tree while William was on a tire swing. William & the tire are on the ground, I asked him if he was okay, if anything was broken, he said no & got up. So I immediately turn my attention to Chan, who is now screaming at me that he's bleeding really bad & that he can't breath. I get to him, blood's dripping everywhere, and I notice that he's got at least a 6 in gash in his head. So I grabbed my cell & dialed 911. I knew there was no way in hell I was going to be able to drive, hold his head & get him to the hospital. So I get him out to the front porch to wait for the ambulance.

The look him over, deteremine that he does need to go to the hospital. They took him away in the ambulance, with Mommy right behind him. I called Robert to have him meet me there. Of course he gets there first, and calls me every 5 min asking where we are. We get there, the wound won't stop bleeding, they numbed it, that didn't work. So they send him for a ct scan, that showed that he has an 8 mm skull fracture, no brain damage, nothing splintered off or anything.

They transferred him to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta to have the Neurosurgeon look at his head. After evaluating it, he determined that he didn't need surgery, that it should heal on it's own in 6-8 wks. He had to stay overnight, Braeden & I stayed with him. The dr wants to see him back in 2 wks to evaluate him again & take the staples out.

He was released at 10 am & is home doing well :) He will not be able to go to school on Mon & Tue. And for the next 2 wks will not be able to do PE or play rough like he normally does.

I am just so thankful that it wasn't worse.

  1. I already commented on the board but I just really hope that he's doing alright and that YOU are! I'm sure that was terrifying. Hugs to you!
